Good luncheon

Today was our luncheon with our buddy’s.  And I have an awesome buddy!!  You have no idea how much that means.  I mean, seriously, no clue.

Fragile X carriers come with their own set of issues.  My biggest one is my shyness.  I’m not just shy…I’m all out fearful of new people and new places.  I don’t even like to call my hubby in sick or call and order a pizza.  Once I get to know a person or a place I’m generally okay but before that I would much rather be hit by a bus.

For example, we had a conference planned at work.  The invitation had the date wrong.  So we had to split the list between the 7 of us and call them to inform them of the error and see if they were coming.  Pretty much everyone went straight into their offices and starting calling.  I set my list aside for later….much later.  Near the end of the day one of the officers said that our RSVP list was starting to get too long so we needed to stop calling.  You have no idea how relieved I was.

I never did have to call my list of people.  If I would have had to call them I would have had to psych myself up to do it.  I have to give myself a little pep talk in order to pick up the phone or go into a new place.

And that is what I did before the luncheon.  I gave myself a pep talk and put on a brave face and went in to the strange place to meet a strange person.  Luckily, there were more familiar faces than unfamiliar.  I also got there before my buddy.  That always helps.  She got there a tad bit after the food was served.

I love introductions because they make people seem more open and human.  I can get a lot of feedback from an individual just by how they introduce themselves.  So after the intro’s were done I dove right in and started chatting with my buddy.  It went good and we traded email addresses so we can set up a time to go have lunch.  And now she is going to try to see if she can get her child into the daycare I use! :)

Day 2 of New Method

Matt still threw a little fit when he arrived at daycare today.  When I opened his door he threw himself back into the seat and did a fake whine.  I told him to take his seatbelt off.  He mumbled some stuff about fishing with grandpa and going to granna’s but he did sit up and take the seatbelt off.  Then he threw himself back down in the seat for about 30 seconds.  I am assuming that he realized that I was just going to stand at the car door and wait so he got out of the car.  He slowly trudged into the house and mumbled just a couple of time about fishing with grandpa.  He didn’t try to swipe at me or anything so it’s getting better.  :)
