Time Changes are Bull

This post mentions nothing new for those of us with mentally handicapped children.  For those of you who don’t, time changes are a nightmare in our world.

“Why?” you ask!

Because, my son has been up since 4:00 a.m.  Once he is awake he will not go back to sleep.  But, I have to try to get him to go back to sleep.  My husband was smart.  He knew that wouldn’t happen so he went and started the coffee.  I turned on a black and white movie, snuggled with my son in my bed, and did my best to get him to go back to sleep.

That was two hours ago.  He is still very much awake with no signs of waning.  None!  The only good thing is that he is keeping his voice low so that he doesn’t wake the other children.

Tonight, he will be trying to go to sleep at 7:30.  Most nights that wouldn’t be too big of an issue but we have a wedding reception to attend this evening.  And don’t forget the Dallas Cowboys game! 

It’s going to be a long week of tug-of-war with his sleep cycle.  I have to get him to go to bed later and hope he will wake up later in the morning.
