Bush vetoed the bill….are we at all surprised. 

Nothing like supporting a war that does nothing for us instead of helping to fund something that does.

Below is what can be done to help override the veto.  This affects all of us…fragile X families or not.  It’s a simple form and only takes about 10 minutes or less.  Please help to get this overridden and put Bush in his place…as our leader and voice, not our dictator.

URGENT ADVOCACY ACTION ALERT   President Carries Out Veto Threat Please Contact Your Members of Congress And Ask Them To Override   November 14, 2007   From:   NFXF Washington Team   To:       All NFXF Advocates   Dear Advocates:   The beginning of November brought with it agreement by House and Senate leadership on federal health funding levels for the 2008 fiscal year. As we reported last week, the House and Senate passed the bill which contained this funding. We had fantastic Fragile X results: almost all of the directive language we requested to increase research funding by the NIH was included in the bill. In addition, $1,860,000 was included for the CDC Fragile X Public Health Initiative – more than DOUBLE the current funding level of the program and more than $900,000 above the level included by the House of Representatives!   Regrettably, yesterday the President carried out his promise to veto this bill because it exceeded his requests.   Please take just a few minutes to contact your Members of Congress TODAY and urge them to override the veto. This is the most important thing you can do for Fragile X funding right now. The Fragile X funding in this bill would not be possible without all the hard work you, our advocates, put into reaching out to your Members of Congress over the last ten months. Help us to maintain that funding today by encouraging your Members to override this veto.   We are at a critical point in the appropriations process, and just a few minutes of your time will make a big difference.
