Feedback from Students

At the beginning of the month I blogged about how my family is involved with an awesome project.  We host a pair of students each semester.  They are going into regular education teaching but because of inclusion must take a class on special education basics.  Part of that class is to get a human feel for the families who have these children.  You can read the whole post here.

Well, last night we got letter from the organization with comments that the students had made.  I was impressed that both of the students that we hosted had their comments published on the page!  Here is what they said (with names changed of course ;) )

Hello [our last name] Family!

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you again for everything you shared with us.  I appreciate your generosity and kindness in welcoming us into your home and sharing all the valuable information about Matt and Rachel’s experiences.  This information has been very valuable and I believe it will help me a great deal when I have my own classroom, as well as everyday.  You have shed much light on the subject and I thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.  Sincerely [student A]

and the other comment was:

Happy Thanksgiving [our last name] Family!

I am so thankful that I was able to come visit with you all.  You have such a wonderful and strong family.  I learned a lot during our visit both professionally and personally. I learned that the family always know wthe most about their children and that parents can be a very helpful resource; if not the most important one when learning about a child with special needs.  I hope that when I am in a classroom, I will be able to practice being flexible and parent friendly to every child and help them succeed.  Your family is such an inspiration.  You have inspried me truly, to educate myself about my students and practice family values in my classroom.  I wish you all a terrific holiday.  Thank you, [Student B]

Talk about making us feel like we made a difference!!!  There were five other comments that they put in the letter that I’ll post at another date.  Right now I have to get my buns to work!!
