Turkey Day Recap
We had a good Thanksgiving.
Everyone got to sleep in. Everyone also managed to get a shower before we left the house. That is a huge accomplishment with a family of 6! I also got a few loads of laundry done, and the girls did dishes, before we left the house.
We left the house around 11:15. We went to my dad’s sisters house. She lives a little over an hour away. We listened to the 1st Harry Potter book on CD on the drive up.
My aunt lives in the country so there was lots of outside space for all the children that were there. Rachel was the youngest child. The rest of the kids were teenagers. My dad’s other sister is an elementary school p.e. teacher so she brought a lot of her equipment from school for the kids to play with outside.
I am 100% not ashamed that I am in no way not a cook. I know nil about cooking and I am okay with that. My aunt asked that my family bring the rolls and butter. I felt so good getting the rolls. I felt like such a savvy woman. Until I whipped
them out when we got there and realized that they were not the fast cooking, easy peasy, yummy kind I was expecting. Kevin drove my mom and I to the store nearby to find some (I had to take a Lortab for my tummy pain and my mom had been drinking wine so we needed a DD). My mom bought the rolls and Kevin and I just had to empty the packages into a bowl for my aunt.
The food was good. It was a potluck so there was a little of everything. Everyone got full tummies. Matty didn’t pee or poop himself so that is always awesome!! And when he used their toilet pee didn’t squirt out all over the floor around the toilet, another super duper plus. Rachel did very good too. Even with not knowing some of the people there she didn’t cower in a corner, cry, or stick to me like glue. Actually, my aunt, the p.e. teacher’s, girlfriend told me that she just talked her ear off while they were sitting outside watching the boys play flag football!
I took my dachshund with us.
Since she was my grandma’s dog and there are my grandma’s children, I really thought they needed to see her. I was right. My Aunt M said that she was afraid to ask about the dog because she was afraid it was dead. I loved the vote of confidence I get from my family. My Aunt D got teary when she saw her. My grandma died 16 months ago, on my wedding day, so there are still some raw emotions about her death. Actually, the last time I saw them was in that same house, right after my grandma’s funeral.
We left there after the 1st quarter of the Dallas game.
We headed back home so we could have dessert with Kevin’s family. I also needed to hand Rachel over to her father. We weren’t at Kevin’s parent’s house for very long. We all had some pie, watched Hairspray, and visited. Kevin was ready to get home and relax, and I was beginning to hurt again so we left.
The rest of the evening everyone just chilled out. It was a nice, calm day without any meltdowns. It was a day not to remember.
