Please No Shots
December 1, 2007
I wanted to do something special with all 4 kids this morning. I know how they are though. If I tell them we are doing something they have never done before they whine and cry about it. They will tell me it’s going to be boring, that it’s dumb, whatever. I finally figured out that I just wouldn’t tell them what we were doing until we were at the loc
ation. (I’m a slow learner…lol)
Lauren couldn’t take it. She had to know. When I wouldn’t tell her, the anxiety set in. Then I wouldn’t tell her, why I wouldn’t tell her, where we were going.
So she hesitantly comes into the bathroom while I am getting ready to go and asks, “Mom, am I getting a shot?”
I laughed so hard at her. For one, who gets shots on a Saturday! For another, I could never be that cruel!
We actually went to see the “Festival of Trees.” The FOT is an annual event. My office always enters a Christmas tree. This year we did an Elvis Presley tree. We thought we were being creative but it was one of three Elvis trees. It is a weeklong event. Today was the final day. People buy raffle tickets and then put one in a bucket in front of their favorite trees. In the afternoon, they are raffled off. The money goes to a local agency that helps developmentally disabled
children and adults. We bought 10 tickets. Austin put both of his tickets in a tree that was covered with teddy bears that were dressed in camoflauge. I’m not exactly sure where the girls put theirs because they did it before I could see. I put mine in my Elvis tree and in one I thought my hubby would like. Matthew put his in one that spun and was covered in toys. He put his other one in a white tree that was covered in pink, purple and green balls. We had a lot of fun checking them out. Unfortunately, we didn’t win a tree. But it could have been worse. We could have won 5 trees!!!

I too have to wait sometimes to tell Maizie where we are going. Sometimes though I have to begin preparing her well in advance. It is always a guessing game on my part, or it at least feels like it. Sounds like you had a nice time at The Festival of Trees.

It always sounds so much worse out here because you call them ’shots.’ We call them ‘jabs’ which doesn’t sound anything like as painful.
Cheers
I do like jabs sooo much better.
