Another Snow Day

snow-day.gifWoohoo!!  The only bummer is that I was home yesterday due to tummy pain.  I still hurt a smidge but I’m okay enough to go in.  But I can’t.  This snowfall was worse than the last one and it’s still coming down.  Apparently, we have a snow advisory until 6am.  Everything is shut down; all county schools, all area courts, the college, etc.  My mother’s school even shut down and they hadn’t closed for a snow day in 100 years!!

Kevin started driving me to work but he turned around and brought me back.  I’m his hostage.  Hee Hee.  He is currently making breakfast: bacon, eggs & pancakes.  I need to be his hostage more often :) .

Austin is still sleeping.  The other three kids were already up when we heard the news.  Lauren wanted to ressurect the super model snowwoman and touch up the fort.  So she called the neighbor girl, but her mom has restricted her to the house because she is getting sick.  Instead, Lauren headed over to give her friend some TLC.  Rachel and Matt are chilling in the living room.  Matt is staring out the front window at the snow.  He will be there all day except to pee and eat.  Rachel is watching tv, listening to the radio and reading a book.  I don’t get how she can do that.snowman-walking-a-dog.jpg

I’m hoping once Austin gets up that we will have some fun in the snow.  He’ll get the girls riled up and maybe they can go out and play.  Though Austins idea of fun in the snow is pelting his sisters with hard snowpacked snowballs.  Brothers are just awesome.  NOT!!

Day Off

So what do you do when you get a day off and your kids do to??  Why, create the universe, of course :) .

Rachel is studying the solar system so she had to make a model of it with the sun, planets and the moon.

Kevin bought a kit at Walmart that had the styrofoam balls, wire, base and rings in it.  We had to buy the paint separate and paint it.  That was the most fun.  I got to teach Rachel how to mix other colors together to create new ones.

I got to play with my hubby’s wire cutters.  Woohoo. And I even knew how to use them.  I’m moving up in the world ;-) .

Rachel used some stickers she got for her birthday to create her labels.

And the kit didn’t contain a ball for the moon so we found one of our own.  A bouncy ball….lol.  I had initially thought play-doh would make a good ball, but can you believe we have no play-doh in our house!!

Taggage

I was tagged a week ago.  But I had to find a day that I didn’t have anything to ramble on about. So here we go:

Thanks to Beartwinsmom at her blog, I’ve been tagged for the 7 Interesting Things about Me Meme. I’ve been tagged for this one before when it was an 8 things about you meme, but I’m too lazy today to figure out where it is.

So, here are the rules:
- Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
- Share 7 random and or weird things about yourself.
- Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
- Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

  1. I hated sugar as a kid.  On a flight with my bio dad when I was 3ish the attendant gave him jerky and me cookies.  I screamed bloody murder because I hated cookies.  He obviously didn’t know that cuz he hadn’t seen me since I was an infant.  I got my jerky.  He ate my cookies.
  2. My uncle and I were in kindergarten together.
  3. In 1st grade I was the kid that gave everyone chicken pox.
  4. I have only been in 1 serious fight.  I beat the hell out of a girl in second grade because she called my mom a slut.  I didn’t even know my mom but I didn’t like her tone.
  5. I was raised by my grandparents from the time I was 3ish to about 12.  Theaters had germs.  So when I moved in with my bio dad I finally got to go to the theater and see my very first movie on the big screen:  Oliver and Company.
  6. I’ve had to do a sobriety test.  On the side of the road.  By a night club.  At night.  Because I didn’t turn my headlights on until after I pulled out of the parking space in a very well lit parking lot.  I passed.  I haven’t been out dancing, or drinking, since.
  7. I think my hubby knows this so I hope I’m not devastating him when he read this BUT I hated my wedding.  I wanted nothing more but to flee from it.  I don’t like being put on a pedestal.  I hate pictures.  The only good thing that I liked about it was staring into his eyes when we said our vows because the camera flashes and people melted away.  It was supposed to be about us but I didn’t feel like I could be me.  My mother did just about everything and she did it her way.  I tried to keep it small and simple but she felt that I “deserved” it.  I’m the only daughter and they adopted me so this was her dream.  The pictures afterward took too damn long.  People were leaving which sadly I was okay with.  I didn’t get to enjoy my food.  I didn’t get to enjoy my wedding cake.  I didn’t get to enjoy my guests.  I am soo happy I found the man that I will live the rest of my life with and is my bestest friend because I don’t want to ever get married or have another wedding again!!

And the 7 people I am tagging are:

Beautiful Blonde ~ my oldest girl

The Fire Breathing Brother ~ my oldest boy

And then there were two ~ cuz she is doing that crazy 365 post thing

Marla Baltes ~ cuz, well, I don’t know, just cuz :) (response)

Okaseneko Chronicles ~ cuz I’ve just recently met her and I’m curious to know more (response)

Our Life ~ I’ve emailed her a lot and she has lots of interesting stuff to say

and…

Wright Writes ~ cuz she hasn’t written since her anniversary and I want to make sure she hasn’t dropped off the planet ;-) (released per request…lol)

We are so proud

beware1.gifWarning:  If the word “penis” makes you cringe, please don’t read any further :) .

On top of having fragile x, Matty was born with some unrelated urinary issues.  He had a testicle in his abdomen that had to be put in the right place when he was 18 months old.  He also had what was called hypospadias.  The opening in his penis was at the base and not at the tip.  That was a huge, major surgery when he was 4 years old.

So potty training the kid was never exactly easy.  With his fragile X he has been a bit slower on getting trained.  Plus he doesn’t feel pain so we aren’t exactly sure if he can feel the urges to go potty.  And even though he has had reparative surgery on his penis, he still has to sit down to pee.

Matty was in diapers/pull-ups until he was about 9.  One day I finally couldn’t look at another pull up and went 100% skivvies.  He stayed dry all night and would occasionally pee in the toilet so I knew that we had hope.  The first few months were nasty.  He instantly learned that pooping his underwear was all wrong and stopped that.  But he still peed him himself…a lot.

However, by the time he was 10 he started going pee in the potty about 95% of the time.  Of course, we had to put him on the toilet every 2-3 hours AND tuck his penis in for him.

At about 11 1/2 we could tell him to go potty and he would get up and go get on the toilet.  potty-training.jpgBut we still had to follow him in to make sure he tucked himself in.

Well….we just hit another major pottying milestone.  He not only goes and gets on the potty BUT he is also tucking himself in….without us reminding him.  He’s been doing it for about a week now.  We are stoked.  We all felt like we were violating the child by having to tuck it in for him.

I mentioned to Kevin that maybe next we can get him to wipe himself or even just go in there when he needs to go.  Kev gave me THE LOOK and told me not to rush it.  Good point.  I get so overzealous.

I’m so proud of him though.  I just never know what he will achieve next.  It’s awesome!

Hallelujah!

I got good news! I got good news!  I got some really really good news!

My surgery is approved by my insurance.  Woohoo!  AND there is more.  They told my doctor’s office that because they screwed up they are paying 100% of the costs.  So we don’t have to pay the $500 deductible!  (though I’m not counting on that til I see the bill…lol)

I got good news! I got good news!  I got some really really good news!

Thanks for all the prayers guys.  God is good :)
