Things I Have Learned While I’m on Bedrest

As Suzanne said recently on a comment, I am one of those super Type A people mainly cuz I’m a fragile x carrier.  So it’s nothing for me to be a mom, a wife, a full-time student, & a full-time employee.  I enjoy it and I’m constantly trying to find ways to create a balance where everyone feels that they are getting enough of me.  Of course my 4 babies are #1, followed up by Kevin.  Kevin knows he is #2 until the kids are grown.  It was something we agreed upon before we ever married.  Our kids have to be #1 before all else.  We don’t abuse that though.  We also know that once the kids leave the nest, we have to still know and like each other, so we do try to take time out for each other as we can and the kids allow which is actually quite often. 

Anyway, I’m a rambler today… Sorry.  What I’m trying to say is that now that I’m not going in a gazillion directions my eyes have opened to some things I have overlooked. 

Here are the most profound things I have noticed:

• Rachel ends all questions with, “or no?”  For example, “Can I play on your laptop, or no?”, “Can I have a snack, or no?”
• Matthew’s speech has massively improved since Austin and Lauren have moved in.  He models a lot of what they say.  But I have noticed in his speech gain that he has this issue with compound words. He only says the last word.  The most profound of these words is “grandparents.”  He calls them “parents.”  It drove me nuts trying to figure out what the heck he was telling me for a while.  Now I finally get it.
• Austin loves teddy bears.  He keeps trying to steal mine.
• Lauren has way too much drama in her school day.  I wonder if she does any school work.
• My husband is an excellent wife but he sucks at house cleaning.
• I’m an extremely picky eater.  I never noticed this before.  I am quite annoying.  My husband now hates me.  I’m just proud I was able to hide it for 3 years. 
  • I hate soggy cereal.  But I eat so slow it will inevitably get soggy.  So I never finish a bowl of cereal.
  • I have to have 2 hot dogs…one with mayo and one with ketchup.  I eat the ketchup one first.
  • I don’t like anyone putting ice in my hot drinks to cool them down.  I enjoy the incredibly hot burning sensation when I drink.
  • I will only eat beef or pork ramen noodles.  The chicken ones smell gross and I can’t eat them.
  • Ice in milk is just wrong.
  • If I have jelly/jam on my toast, I can’t have butter on it too.  It has to be one or the other.
  • French toast has to be made with a splash of vanilla or I have to choke it down.
• Daytime tv is just dumb.  There is nothing of intelligence on any of the channels I have found.  It’s a waste of technology.
• I’m a procrastinator and I work better under time pressure.  I have all this time on my hands, but I wait until the day before an assignment is due to do it.
• Listening to my family interact is one of my greatest joys.
