Grounded!

April 27, 2008

Pretty much every child in our house is grounded in some way or another.  Grounding always seems like a good idea at the time.  But during the children’s groundingthey follow the mom around with bored little eyes begging for some sort of input.  That eventually drives the mom insane and she is either committed or shortens the grounding terms.  But I will stay strong and try to be creative in how I keep them busy.  And there is always dog poop to clean up.

Lauren isn’t really grounded.  She just got some stuff quashed because she is a sneaky little turkey.  When she gets home from school she has to hand over her cell phone until the next morning.  If she doesn’t she kills us in texting minutes.  And I mean killsus!  Then she was going for walks with the neighbor girl and calling me from the school telling me she was over there.  Over there doing what??  I’ll never know.  So walks got squashed.  Then she was just going to the neighbor girls house without asking.  She already tried to be sneaky and set up a myspace account over there.  So that got squashed too.  Darn sneaky teenage girls.

Austin has his life taken away during the school week because his grades are seriously suffering and we only have about 4 weeks of school left.  Instead of doing his homework he was playing video games and watching TV.  He would tell us that he didn’t have any so we didn’t say anything about.  So until the end of the school year he doesn’t get the TV or the Playstation 2.  Before bed on Sunday he has to bring us the Playstation 2 and unplug his TV.  Saturday morning he gets them back for the weekend.  Kevin thought we should give him it on Friday night until I told him that he had homework on Fridays.  Kevin wasn’t aware because Austin told him that he never had homework on Friday’s.  Heathen.  He survived one week of this punishment but I can tell it is driving him a little loco.  Maybe next year he will do what he needs to do or I’ll have to implement my evil plan again.

Rachel is also grounded.  Hers is because of behavior problems.  She has been very hateful to people.  She also stomps away when people are talking to her.  So instead of strangling her we made her hand the TV remote over for the week.  She starts counseling on the 5th so hopefully some of this stuff will start working itself out soon.

Matty is the only one not grounded.  Though if Matty ever did anything we would be in total shock.  And I don’t know what we would ground him from.  We can’t take the dogs away from him and that is what he lives for.  Usually with Matt his punishments have to be immediate and a time-out suffices.  You would think that we took away his best friend when we put him in time out.  He HATES it.

It could be a long week with my two non-electronics children.  I might need a trip or two to the library this week!!
