Good First Day
August 19, 2008
All the kids had a good first day yesterday.
Lauren
She is on a waitlist to change her classes around. She was supposed to know something this morning but she hasn’t called me. We’ll see what happens.
She got contacts over the summer so she got a lot of compliments for that. She had a big head when I picked her up.
Austin
He decided at the last minute to not change his schedule. He is my no-fuss kid. He doesn’t like to make waves and usually just goes with the flow. So he swears he is fine with that one instructor. We’ll see how it goes.
He also decided that maybe now he does want to play football. So today he was going to go see if he could get in late.
Matthew
Matty had the best 1st day of school anyone could ever have at 12. He got kissed by a girl. One of the regular ed 7th graders was so excited to see him that she gave him a kiss on the cheek. He told Lauren all about while she had him on the potty.
I asked him about his teacher this morning. He tells me:
She’s nice. Nice kid. Girl. She’s hot.
So apparently she is a hit. His teacher did confirm that it was IQ testing so we declined.
Rachel
Oh my gosh!! This girl is so ecstatic about school starting. She was hopping around and flapping like she was going to fly away to the moon. She is loving 4th grade. She loves her teacher and she loves classmates and she loves the lunch lady. There wasn’t anything she didn’t love.
She was the only kid that had homework, which in a sense was a blessing. She had somewhere to put all that darn energy. The teacher gave them a list of questions and each student chose one and wrote the teacher a letter answering it. Rachel chose “What is your favorite sport and why.”
So today it was pretty to get them off to school. The jitters were gone and they were ready to see all of their friends. Too bad every school day wasn’t this fun.
And even though I expected after such a great day, to hear wishes that we weren’t moving, I got 4 votes to still move. And I’m glad. 5/6 of our schools failed AYP math profiency exams last year. With 3/4 kids struggling with math…that’s not good odds.
