not THAT!

Kevin has been more vocal this election than the last one. One reason is because we are complete opposites when it comes to our political beliefs but this year I agree with a lot of what he believes. The other reason is that in 4 years both Austin & Lauren will be able to vote. Kevin is using this election as a kind of primer on all things political.
Kevin was explaining to Lauren that Obama’s tax plan could affect us directly in a negative way. We didn’t realize that Rachel was paying attention to the conversation.
Later that day I picked her up from my parents’ house. She was really quiet as we drove slowly down their dirt road. Finally, she says, “Mom. I don’t want Obama to win.”
“Why honey?”
I was really curious to see if she had heard something crazy like how he is a Muslim terrorist. My mom is stuck on this myth. For an educator she isn’t very educated!
Instead, Rachel says, “Well, because Mom.”
She looked over at me teary-eyed, “I don’t want to be poor!”

So interesting what people fixate on…good for her that she has an opinion and in concerned…it’s so hard because I think each candidate has issues and policies that concern me as well! Hopefully it will carry forward with her and she’ll continue on to become an informed and educated voter when she’s older!
