Rachel’s Crush & other budding news
I have read, or heard, that fragile x kids can begin puberty a little earlier than their peers. This past soccer season showed me just how much Rachel is growing up. Rachel got a new love interest, the referee. The referee is a young teen, probably around 13 or 14. He is friends with the coach and sometimes drops in to help her with drills and things. And of course he is there on Saturdays to ref the games. He is a good kid. And he knows Rachels name. Nothing is greater to a pubescent young girl than an older boy who knows her
name.
And she is FLIRTING!! My almost 10 year old knows how to flirt!?!? When did that happen? I blame it all on Lauren.
A couple of weeks ago I was watching her on the field during practice. The girls were donning their blue mesh jerseys for a scrimmage with another practicing team. Rachel pretended that her jersey was too tangled up for her to fix it. She asked the ref to help her. He did. Once he got it untangled she puts her arms up in the air for him to PUT IT ON her!! WTF!!
And you should have seen the smile that she flashed him.
Her last day of soccer was last Saturday. Sadly, there was a different referee and Rachel’s crush was not there. But she got her developed soccer pictures at a team party afterward. I had to chuckle that the ref was in the team photos. During the silly photo Rachel was staring right over at the ref. She now gets to stare at her ref all year long (sigh).

Speaking of early puberty, I had a harsh realization about my baby. She put on this one shirt that she loves. I had to do a double take. For the first time I realized that this girl has to wear a bra. There was no way I could let her out without one in that shirt. She had little buds peeking out!! She has a few trainers so I sent her back to her bedroom to put one on.

So to keep my baby young, ya know what we are doing this weekend?? We are having a princess day Saturday. We are going to go do a little shopping. Then we are going to go see Barbie: The Christmas Carol at the theater (our theaters shows it for $1!!). Then we are going to go get our hair cut. We are going to have a little lunch…her choice. And we may shoot over to the library…to the kiddy section
