It’s Destiny
November 7, 2008
Yesterday evening Rachel came home with a gift from a friend. It was a scrapbook. Her friend, Vanessa,
decided that they should scrapbook their friendship. Last spring they were on the same soccer team together. So Vanessa took a picture of her in her uniform from last year and stuck it in there with a note to Rachel. This morning Rachel took a picture of herself from this year (last season is packed) and put it in with a not to Vanessa. It is just too cute! Rachel is always coming home with notes, bracelets & other little things from Vanessa.
I was thinking last night how I wish I could find out who Vanessa’s parents are so that I can set up a play date or a sleepover. God was apparently listening to my musings.
This morning I volunteered to pop and bag popcorn at Rachel’s school for the popcorn sale they are having
today. Shortly after I arrived one of the dad’s arrived. I love it when dad’s volunteer. Whenever Kevin has the chance he likes to volunteer. I LOVE it!! We got lined out on how to make the popcorn and bag it and stuff. So we got started. We talked about the girls’ teacher before I asked him who his daughter was. When he said Vanessa my heart stopped. NO WAY!!
Out of 30 students this is the dad I got paired up with to do popcorn. So we started talking about Vanessa and Rachel. He is always trying to get Vanessa to invite a friend over or something but she is shy – just like Rachel. We ask her the same thing all the time.
The coincidences between these two girls and the logistics to get them together outside of school was just uncanny. Both girls swap weekends with their divorced parents. Vanessa’s dad has her the same weekend I have Rachel. We both have the same rules – we have to know the other parents first. Well, Kevin & I went to school with Vanessa’s dad though Kevin can’t place him yet. And of course, I got to visit with him for 45 minutes and get a feeling for what kind of person he is now.
So I invited Vanessa to come with Rachel & I to our mother-daughter day. Then afterwards, if Rachel is comfortable, she can either go play at Vanessa’s house for a while or even spend the night.
I love it when things work out
They will be so excited!!
