Awesome News
I recently mentioned that we lost free lunch and have to pay full cost. I’m okay with that. I can play by the rules. But did you know that breakfast is $1.75 and lunch is $2.50!! That is $4.25 a day which adds up to $21.25/week or even more painful is $85/month just to feed one kid. I have 4 kids so it would cost me
$340/months just to feed my kids at school.
Well, everyone but Matt was on board with taking a cold lunch. They were aghast at the cost too. Matty doesn’t get money. And I didn’t even ask him. He’ll go along with anything until his routine is changed and then it is not okay anymore. So Kevin and I decided we would suck it up and find a way to pay for this kid to keep his routine.
Last night I deposited $45 into his food account and school and wanted to cry. That is now a tank of gas for the van. I emailed the teacher this morning about what we could do to transition Matty to taking cold lunches or not eating breakfast…

Do you have any kids in the class who bring their own lunch??
We went from getting free lunch to having to pay the whole amount . The other 3 kids are taking cold lunch but we haven’t started Matthew on it because we worry about him adjusting to it. If he was the only one in class then I know for sure he wouldn’t go for it.
M brings his lunch. Matthew is a pizza guy most of the time. He is also a cafeteria worker because he cleans the tables after 6th grade lunch and 7th grade lunch. Since he is a worker, that will help a little bit with the lunch money. Also, do you still want him to get a breakfast? The breakfast meal can drain your account. There is a cafeteria worker at the high school that you need to speak to, and I will find out the name of that person.

It’s an ingrained routine so I’m not sure if we can break him from breakfast but i’m willing to try. I just worry that if others are eating that he will expect to eat too. And in the past i’ve tried to feed him at home and he refuses cuz he expects to eat at school. maybe he can pack breakfast too and be okay with that. I guess we won’t know if we don’t try. I just don’t want him to have a major meltdown on you guys…it’s not pretty and food will definitely cause one.
No problem! I talked to one of the cafeteria workers, and she said that by Matthew being a worker it covers his breakfast cost! He also has money in his account, and she said that he had no problems!

Yeah I deposited some money in last night. So breakfast is covered!! Tell the worker that I could just hug her …if I was a huggy person. Thank you so much Kay. You have no idea how much relief this is!!!
