  1. If you saw this baby would you think fragile x syndrome? Autism? Well, this is my Matthew as a baby. At this time he was able to sit and roll but he still couldn’t crawl or walk. He was 18 months old.

  2. It’s interesting, because now, being informed, I WOULD think Fragile X with looking at the picture and your brief discription of his abilities. Just like when I look back at my boys…their behaviors, physical features, and abilities screamed Fragile X, but, of course, I had NEVER heard of it before Kyle got diagnosed…at almost 3 years of age. Looking back, he should have diagnosed so much earlier. (partly my fault, partly rude doctor’s fault).

  3. Yeah, and more people need to “know!” There’s so much autism awareness now…which is great…but Fragile X is still “not there” yet (key word: yet). When the whole thing about a possible cure for Fragile X came out about a year ago, the mainstream newscasts made it out to be a “cure for autism” with only the slightest mention of Fragile X. Maybe we need Oprah and a celebrity! ;)

  4. I’m dying here. He is the cutest kid! I love, love, LOVE this picture. I could never get pics of my kids taken with out a blur of flapping arms.

  5. The FX community has tried to hard to get Oprah. When the Benoits died it was put in the spotlight a little bit but not in a good way and not in a way that brought out information. It will happen though. Just in the 12 years that I’ve been working with it, it has come a long long way. Now we have senators with kids who have it, authors who have children/grandchildren with it, actors with brothers with it….it’s getting there. Slowly but surely :) .

Whatcha Thinkin'??
